Where is Biysk?
On the map
There are not so many large cities in the picturesque places of the Altai Territory. Biysk is among the largest. Let us consider in more detail where Biysk is located and what is remarkable in this city.
Location of Biysk
The city of Biysk is located in the south of Siberia, in the Altai Territory, on the Biya River, which flows into another river - Katun.
Not far from Biysk are the large cities of Barnaul (to the north) and Gorno-Altaisk (to the south).
The relief of the city is varied due to the fact thatpart of the city lies on a hill, and a part - on a low bank, where pine forests prevail. The river Biysk is divided into two parts, which are connected by a bridge. The difference in the relief affects the climatic features in this region. It can be noted the predominantly sharply continental climate. But there are areas where the temperature can differ significantly from other Altai settlements. The fact is that the lower part of the territories is covered by mountains, and therefore the streams of cold Siberian air are held back. There are periods when in the area of Biysk there is absolute calm, there is practically no wind. This is also the merit of the mountains.
Historically, the city owes its origin to the Emperor Peter I. It was built as a fortress several years after St. Petersburg was founded.
At the moment the city is aa large industrial and scientific center in which it is possible to discover the intertwining of various cultures due to its proximity to other states - Mongolia and Kazakhstan.
