How to repair minor damage to the concrete floorJanuary 27, 2018
At arrangement of floors very often apply the filling by the concrete differing in the whole range of operational advantages. But, despite the strength and durability, over time, the screed can begin to collapse, cracking and flaking. The formation of these defects leads to a decrease in the strength of the entire base; therefore, it is necessary to react correctly to such moments and make repair measures in time.
Before the start of restoration work, a visual study of the extent of damage and the identification of the causes of their occurrence is carried out. Depending on the result of processing the received information, methods for solving the problems that have arisen are selected. If the damage is of a local nature, it can be limited to fragmentary restoration work. It is believed that this type of restoration is acceptable if the percentage of the damaged surface does not exceed 30% of the total floor area.
Preparation for work at the first stage includes the removal of all furniture from the room and the dismantling of the floor covering. Damage sites are thoroughly cleaned of dust, dirt and delaminations with an iron brush. A notch is applied to the restored areas, after which all the dust from the floor is removed with a construction vacuum cleaner.
To eliminate small flaws, a conventional mortar and sand mortar (1/3) is prepared, but PVA glue is added to it:
• Potholes.May occur from prolonged exposure to small areas of heavy furniture screed, or as a result of heavy objects falling onto the floor. In the process of restoration, the pothole needs to be slightly expanded and deepened. After cleaning the recess, close it up with an epoxy solution or adhesive paste. After applying the mixture, pierce the mixture with a steel nail, removing air voids, and align flush with the general level of the base. If the recess exceeds 5 cm, then the sealing should be carried out in several layers. After the restoration site is completely dry, it needs to be sanded.
• Cracks.First, they must be embroidered, to the sides and depth, using a punch or a chisel and a hammer. The groove is cleaned of dirt and ground, and then sealed with a solution flush with the concrete screed. If the crack has a considerable width, with the help of the grinder on the sides an additional notch is made, where the steel reinforcement is laid.
• Gossamer.Areas with small cracks are primed and sealed with a moisture resistant sealant. You can also apply the traditional repair composition.
• Slight unevenness. Comb waves cleaned grinder with a grinding wheel, to obtain a notch. After dusting, the treated area is primed and filled with mortar (a self-leveling mortar is quite suitable).
It is important to carry out the event for the elimination of minor damages with observance of all technological recommendations, because there is always a temptation to shorten the time. Such haste often leads to the recurrence of defects in the same places..
